Bike Talk / S1000 XR versus KTM Superduke GT
January 30, 2019, 08:57:07 PM
So the ZZR1400 is at 56k miles, it's still riding well but with my mileage its time to get something new.

Another ZZR is still a possibility but I'd been keen to hear from anyone who has had the 2 bikes in the title.

Any thoughts?

Bike Talk / Snapped Chain
June 15, 2017, 12:46:23 PM
Nothing like a snapped chain at speed to scare the shit out of you  :icon_pale:

Based on the damage around the front sprocket area I'm glad for all those chain guards

So the ZZr has a SW motech ALU rack plate on the back.

I've seen pictures online of adaptor plates but they look way different to the mounting points on the actual box.

What am I missing?

Yes yes I know a topbox on a ZZR blah blah blah ;-)

My wifes cousin's started buying bikes a while back and recently the dealer trade in with 2 many miles for showroom stock.

I happened to drop in and he had a mint 2012 facelift model. Chucked me the keys off I went and now I'm buying it.

Whoops

Bike Talk / Pilot road 4 or T30 evo?
February 19, 2017, 09:26:01 PM
So the Tigers rear Pirelli Angel GT tyre is essentially square and has left the bike handling like a Harley.

I've been a bridgestone rider through bt023 and the original T30 but a lot of people on the triumph forums are obsessed with the road 4.

What do folks on here think? My opinion of Michelin's might be in correctly biased by the frankly dogshit deathtrap Road 2 tyres I had on a bike years ago.

Any folks running these? I ride right through the winter so all weather grip is super important plus decent mileage.

Bikes For Sale / Yamaha Thundercat
November 08, 2016, 01:18:51 PM
After throwing the Blade down the road I picked up a Thundercat locally as a stop gap bike. I now have a shiny Triumph Tiger so this bike needs to go.

Its a W reg and its extremely Tidy for year. 27K Miles. Good tyres, brakes C&S etc.... I added some braided line but other than that have simply filled it up and ridden it. Its good to go.

£1350 Ninja price. Ill be advertising it on Bike trader for £1450 next week if I get no bites. I am in no rush to sell so don't waste tour time with a silly offer :-p

Thanks Lewis

I have a video the seller sent me which shows the bike in lots of detail, will try to snap some picture later in the week.

Bike Talk / First non sportsbike
October 22, 2016, 08:24:29 PM
After years of 600 750 and 1000 superbikes and sports bikes I have finally accepted id have more fun on something else.

After 3 weeks on a Tiger 1050 I was rught. Sure it wont be as good on track or as fast on A road sweepers but its probably  better everwhere else.

Im a convert.

Bike Talk / What to buy....
August 05, 2016, 11:46:19 PM
So the blade was picked up by the insurance company this morning and although the bikes not in terrible nick based on some of the stuff that's definitely RIP. I have no doubt it's a write off...

So while I wait for the the insurance pay out to come though I need wheels before the traffic or the train based misery kills me.

As this is likely a 6 months stop gap bike and will be 95% used for a 90 mile round trip commute. I'm considering something different to my normal sports bike choices any suggestions?

Current things is...

Triumph Tiger
Yamaha TDM
Vfr800

But other opinions? Top whack is 2.5k

Bike Talk / Crash on Gravel
July 25, 2016, 11:49:11 PM
So sadly on my way home earlier I managed to highside the blade after the rear wheel stepped out on the mother of all gravel piles mid corner.

I'm alright apart from a  bruised knee btw.

Am I dreaming if I think I should try and claim this back through the council? I have someone who stopped to help who said they would help if I did. I also have pictures and videos of the corner in question.

From where the wheel washed out to where I landed is only about 10 metres as I really wasn't going that fast.

Honest opinions. I do have fully comp

Bike Talk / Bike Bluetooth KITS
July 11, 2016, 10:39:29 PM
I am sure many will have opinions on using these in the first place but....

I picked up a Sena SMH5 kit for 100 quid and am suitably impressed.

Calls are clear at 70mph and even the music is pretty decent. Works with your hands free voice activation well too. Best buy in ages.

Bike Talk / Dolly Trailers
July 07, 2016, 02:52:12 PM
Has anyone used 1?  I do not have storage for a full size trailer or even a folding 1 so this looks like an option for the 1 or 2 trackdays a year I might attend.

I guess I have 2 major concerns...

Dragging a bike along in Neutral with the rear wheel on the deck. Should I be worried?

And generally how secure the bike is?

Be interested to hear if anyone has used 1.

Bike Talk / T-Bone
April 21, 2016, 10:35:01 PM
Well the female driver on the way to work had a good go at spraying me on the tarmac but only managed to connect with my Paddock stand bobbin and footpegs. These then removed her front bumper and a whole host of other plastic bit.  Karmas a bitch. She was very apologetic but literally didnt look :-/

Still I was lucky to stay on! until the next time...

Bike Talk / Charging issue - blade 2004
October 24, 2015, 08:26:42 PM
Howdy all. So I broke down on the way home the other day ;-(

The AA fast charged me and I got the remaining 25 miles home but I now need to identify the problem.

I have done a little research and it looks like the stator or rectifier will be at fault.

I know to put a multimeter across the battery to check what charge is being added and that is should be on in the 14 or 15 range but does anyone know how I can identify which part to replace? Or is it blind luck?

Bike Talk / Suspension set-up
August 28, 2015, 04:43:38 PM
So The blade is running great but its set up so hard as the guy had done a few track days on it. Way to hard for the road riding I tend to do.

I could spend 100 quid getting it done by a professional but sounds like a bit of fun to do it yourself. My question is does anyone have any tips, websites worth checking out or youtube links?

Bike Talk / Race shift pattern
August 13, 2015, 12:31:42 PM
So I had to get some new rearsets after the ones that were bodged on the bike and obviously from a different bike broke.

So the set I bought came with very different linkages (the correct ones this time!) which I finally managed to get working properly but only in Race Pattern. Having ridden it to work a couple of times I have come to conclusion that its staying that way for the moment and I actually prefer it.  :moto:

Question is has anyone else tried it this way round? Feels much nicer going down through the gears doing clutch less changes.

Bike Talk / 180 rear tyre on a 1000
July 20, 2015, 12:23:27 PM
Howdy all.

just noticed the previous owner has put a 180 on the back of the 1000rr blade, its feels fine and certainly the handling was a lot quicker than I expected (no bad thing)

Question though, Its going to be replaced in the next 1500 miles (only 2 months for me) Do I stick with the 180 or go back to the original 190? Generally I do road miles and maybe 1/2 trackdays a year.

Bike Talk / Bikeless
June 23, 2015, 09:58:51 PM
Watched the ZX636 drive of earlier in the hands of a new owner...

Sad to see it go was a great bike and handled Silverstone last week like a dream. But time for something new!

Watch this space for the 1000 to follow and keep your eyes peeled for me for a tidy thou on a 2006-08 plate in good nick.
