Looks nice, but expensive and I suspect I'd hate the riding position.

Done at least 4000 on the GS this year, possibly more. Done 9000 in less than 2 years.

2021 from a biking point of view hasn't been too bad, trip to Scotland earlier in the year then just over 2000 miles around Europe.

Got out for the odd ride out on my own but thats about it. If BMW want me to continue doing testing for them I'll probably get out briefly in the coming months but not too much I would have thought.

Friday, quick trip to the dealer to be told my exhaust flapper valve was stuck open causing the engine warning light and said valve was stuck due to a stone. On asking how that was even possible the reply was, "we don't know, it shouldn't be physically possible".

Bike Talk / Re: R1200GS ... Frightfully brilliant

Have to admit if you ignore my "quality" issues I've had with mine, I didn't really think going from a 2016 Triumph Explorer to to the 2019 1250GSA would be much of a difference, I mean, they are both touring/adventure bikes of the same size. But I was wrong, yeah sure the GS initially was frustrating for me but that was largely the bullshit with BMW UK than the bike itself, which aside from the new engine shenanigans has been utterly flawless to ride.

Did 2600miles last August with Steff, fully laden in blistering heat and it was a joy to ride. I'm not a quick road rider anyway, but I'm sure that I wouldn't have been muscling it around the roads any quicker if it had been a brand new S1000RR so for me it's the perfect road bike for my needs.

It is a bit of a heavy lump at a standstill though.

Bike Talk / Re: Are modern bikes just too good?

I agree with Danoir, my GS was £18,000 which I paid £6000 towards, the rest is on finance obviously.

I will say that the GS community love modding bikes so I wouldn't say it's all dead in that arena either, but certainly I suspect people are less likely to wanna tinker especially with a bike that has tons of electronics.

I read about people getting fault codes and unrideable bikes just because they removed the wheels to have tyres fitted and managed to damage to dislodge an ABS sensor or something.

Mines got active suspension, lean sensitive ABS and TCS and all manner of gizmos which are great, but I'm not sure I'd wanna be fucking around with too much in case it caused an expensive headache.

As for bikes being too good, given my experience of BMW quality I'm not sure I'd say that, but it does amuse me that the 6.5inch TFT dashboard on my bike can be removed just by pulling it out of 3 rubber grommets and then disconnecting the wiring block.

And by remove, I mean steal. There's been a spate of them being nicked given how easy they are to remove, BMW say it's not a design flaw and suggest owners remove the TFT's themselves should they feel it's a safety issue. A new one is £1200 from the factory lol

Rode it to and from the dealers recently, but excluding that, 2600 miles around the French and Swiss Alps in August.

Despite all the issues I've had the GS is probably the best all round bike I've ever owned/ridden (for my style of riding). But I do think the Z1000SX will suit you, I nearly tried one myself.

Quote from: Andy M on June 26, 2020, 01:07:34 PMHi mate, Iain has first dibs I'll drop him a line now and check. Hope you well 👍🏻

All good here fella you?

And no worries, I wouldn't try and muscle in! Any chance of the reg of the car? I'm having a nightmare with leasing a new car so considering this as a fallback option.

And for once - gold looks OK. I'd still have black if the choice was there.

I think if I'd been ordering it brand new I'd have played it safe and ordered it with the black wheels too.
