Well, as some of you on Facebook know I sold the R1, I suppose I should explain why as a few have asked. It had nothing to do with whether or not I could afford to keep it, just simply that paying it off each month seeing it sat outside not being used much made my wallet slightly vomit and every trackday I did on it I couldn't get comfy with riding it how I used to with my Gixxer. The fun per £ ratio was all wrong, as much as I loved it. So it's gone.
I then pondered if I wanted a trackbike or something tatty for the road. Anyway long story short I ended up with a Cat C salvage bike which me and Steff did a 400mile round trip to Surrey today to collect.
The bike is a 2005 (on a 56 plate) Yamaha R6 but it is the limited edition Rossi 46 version. It had been written off and sold off to me but I was impressed with how much bike I got for the money.
Lets start with the good :
7850 miles from new
2 previous owners
Full service history
2 nearly new Diablo Corsa 3's fitted
3 keys including the red one plus a Datatool S4.....urgh
Structurally sound
Scottoiler fitted so chain etc is mint
MOT till May 2015
Radial caliper/USD fork version
Now the bad :
Every panel including the tank has some sort of damage with the nose cone fairing taking the brunt
The special Termignoni exhaust is possibly damaged beyond repair but we shall see
Crash bung on RHS is bent badly
One of the headlights is scratched a little too bad to repair which is a shame as its all one unit I think
Fairing brace snapped off (but the lugs on the headstock are intact and not bent
RHS clip on snapped
Front brake lever snapped
A few other bits
Basically my thoughts are, see if I can get it back on the road at minimal cost which shouldn't be hard, and use it as a weekend infrequent toy that owes me nothing realistically but mainly a track toy that I won't be worried about if I bin. Or, if the parts start to mount up for the road I shall just stick some track fairings on and I have myself a very sound trackbike for sub-2K.

So far I have removed the top pieces of the side fairings, managed to remove the bent crash bung and removed the original rubber brake lines and Y-piece.

I'm under no illusions, if I manage to get it back on the road it will look tatty and worn but underneath will be a very low mileage sorted bike so I couldn't care less!
It looks like the previous owner had a lowside but the tyres are literally almost brand new, not even scrubbed in anywhere near the edges (which are still shiny) but there is some blueing on the rear which makes me wonder if he binned it on a trackday without scrubbing them in properly....

Not sure mate will have to see if I can sand them out carefully but not sure if they obstruct the beam or not.

It just used to rev and rev, was great fun more of a laugh than the 06 onwards r6. its one I should have kept hold of really. aftermarket suspension was well worth the investment think I had Maxton on it.
There is something very satisfying about unbolting the bent bits and putting good ones in their place.

Footpeg has turned up too so tonight, if it's dry the fairing brace will be fitted, the clip on including transferring over the throttle stuff etc and changing the footpeg and brake lever. At least then I'll be able to wheels it around properly without having to do it one handed :)

would love the forks done, but at 330 + VAT, i think i will make do with some hyper-pro springs and decent oil

Unfortunately dickhead here ordered the wrong clip on so that was an expensive mistake so I couldn't transfer over the throttle gear sadly. But I did also fix the RHS rearset with the new peg and lever and rode it up the path to check it stopped ok which it did.

One thing I have noticed is that the forks look a little twisted, in that if I centre the top yoke the front wheel looks slightly off centre. I have loosened the clamps and allowed the forks to drop through the yokes a bit but I think I need to remove them completely and check everything. Will get that done once I get the Abba stand adapters and the proper socket size for the front spindle.

If the forks are bent. Might be worth having the headstock checked.
Stick some straight bars on it and ride it like you stole it!

I reckon I've been lucky with the forks. A bit of messing tonight and measuring and I'm fairly sure they are not twisted. I'm still going to rip them out and have a good look over though.

Already mentioned but I would be getting the forks and frame checked over before riding it at all let alone going on the track with it where you'll be putting more stress on the bike..
It's damaged on boths side so could have hit something hard and flicked it over..
Anyoning to strip it down again but needs to be done IMO for peace of mind..

I know mate, frame has been checked properly, no signs of cracks or dents and head stock rake etc is all fine. Forks have been take out by me and checked thoroughly and seals are fine with no obvious bends etc.
Ok, so the clipon has finally arrived but I have a little quandry, but I'm sure it's quite a common one. Reattaching the throttle cables to the throttle tube is proving difficult due to there not being enough slack to get the ends in and seated. Is there a trick to slackening it off without having to spend hours fiddling to get it adjusted right again?
Slide the clip-on through before you mount it to the fork, ie while you have the top yoke off
Managed to get enough slack to get the throttle tube back on. Bike is more or less back in one piece, list of jobs to do now :
Sort out front brake line routing
Bleed front brakes
Fit Renthal grips
Fix LHS front indicator
Replace RHS rearset mounting plate
Tighten and check everything
Took it 100 yards up the road last night just using the rear brake at slow speed. Seems fine and runs lovely. Contacted MHP about getting the Termi can fixed and he quoted me £80 - £100 for it. Ended up buying an Akky can off M6rk but the link pipe diameter is different and they all seem extortionate on eBay.
Akky and Termi have been stuck on eBay and I managed to nab myself a VERY good condition replacement Termignoni can, with baffle, link pipe and springs for £88 delivered so that was a good purchase.

According to the DVLA I can just ride it, BUT, I will probably MOT it the end of the month just for my own peace of mind. I'm no mechanical genius as we all know, and although I'm confident in my work it would be nice just to have the extra seal of approval.
Some insurance companies won't insure it unless it's had a MOT either

Sublime mate, I reset the suspension back to defaults as it was a little harsh and had wondered if it would be a little wayward but I genuinely cannot fault it. The tyre wear was spot on too :

In terms of rebuilding the bike, the first few rides on the road caused me a bit of "oh shit, have I tightened and checked everything properly" so by the time I got to the track I just rode the damn thing lol
