*****KAWASAKI RELEVANT POST!!!!!!!!******
After being sat in my mums greenhouse for over 10 years, I've finally decided its time to not only bring this back to life, but hopefully make something a bit special out of it too
Most of the cobwebs, dust and general shit had already been brushed off before I started taking pictures. I also forgot to take the first 'before' picture and a lot of the pics are for my own reference for when it comes to putting it back together again.
Todays progress so far....

Love it. A bike doesnt get much simpler than that.
Class.
Nice one. :afro: :moto:
Used to be a chap called Lee Irving who rode one of those around my village when I was about 12 yrs old. It's definitely one of the things that got me into bikes (wanting to be like Lee on his black AR50).
Makes me chuckle. He used to ride around in a full face bell with a nicotine glory hole drilled in the front (a la Sheene) so he could smoke tabs on the go
The 50cc I longed for as a spotty youth. Really looking forward to the updates.
Looks like your going to have some fun
This is how the bike is now looking after yesterday

The swing arm pivot bolt is proving....tricky to get out. May have to get a garage to have a go at that =/
And the engine boxed and ready to be sent over to BDK race engineering

Now to find a good powder coater in the Hemel Hempstead area, if anyone knows any recommendations already?
I also need to find a decent metal worker that will be able to reshape the crushed expansion pipe on the exhaust and a couple of dinks on the tank too
Ah my first bike :)
Sadly it ended on fire in the local woodland.
Mmmm I think I need one of those.
Little update to keep this intriguing
Just spent around £500 on goodies from America that will take a few weeks to make and ship
Also spunked about £200 on replacement parts from wemoto.
Still plenty more to come too!
.....my god, this bike stuff is obscenely expensive, especially for a bike that is held in no regard and worth fuck all
Ah well. Got to spend my time and money on something!!
=D

you'd be surprised...... some 40-something with a teenage glint in his eye and a modicum of disposable income will pay handsomely for that, I reckon.
you've only got to look what people are paying for retro BMX's........ if it invokes memories of youth, it's worth money.
Dam you and your plastic tank!
The plastic is the 2 stroke tank The metal petrol tank sits over the top of this and is rusty af inside! I just had to lever the fuel cap off as the mechanism had seized. So, new fuel cap is needed now
Also dismantling a few other things ready to to be shot blast and sprayed

Bucks powder coating in Aylesbury have shotblasted and powder coated my wheels and calipers in the past and were pretty good value.
Thanks for the recommendation! Ill give them a shout
I dropped the tank off at a body shop today for them to completely refurb. Also managed to blag a tyre shop to take the tyres off the rims for me for free!
The goodies from America have now been made and shipped, so should be with me in a couple of weeks
You got a rough price on the tank?
180
Slightly more than I would expect, but ah well

What exactly does that include? Rust removal relining? Paint stripping and respray?
Yeah, stripping, cleaning, filling/fixing of a couple of dents, marks and scuffs.
Respray, sticker application then lacquer finish
The issue with the swing arm pivot bolt is now a massive ball ache.
Most places I phoned around won't even look at it, and the one place that said they'd at least look couldn't do anything about getting it out
=l

WHERE IS THIS BEING DONE!!!! I could have just got my tank done but know I buy another bike I couldn't find anywhere to do it
Perhaps if you'd actually posted and asked if anyone knew of where to get this done instead of the way you went about it you might have found out weeks ago

On a serious note I didn't want to post it across the country so I was looking for somewhere within a 50 mile radius , found a couple but wouldn't touch it as it's not a classic and would not be able to do a satisfactory job which I found strange , but I had no idea it would be as cheap as that

I dropped my petrol tank when I was balancing the carbs. Put a big dent in the top of it. Quick visit to ebay and I bagged a replacement tank including delivery for £2.46. Bargain of the century.

First little package of goodies has arrived
Love that part.
It comes before I start swearing and taking lumps out of myself with inappropriate tools.
No photo updates but I have been cleaning and respraying a few little parts this weekend
Should hopefully get the larger parts off to get sprayed/powder coated this week
Can't wait to see the progress. :)
+1
Still waiting for a lot of things to come back from being sent off to various people, but in the meantime I had another delivery including the big, exciting box from America

Oooo I see where you are going with this now.
Nice.
Like all projects, updates on this are thin are on the ground. But here is one before the next few weeks/ months of silence!
The tank finally arrived back today! All the dents have been worked out nicely and the paint finish is incredibly good!
....just a shame that a car shop is clearly very clueless when it comes to bike decals =/ Ah well. The decal was included in the lacker finish so not really much can be done about that now without re-doing the whole thing

Sweet  :afro: :moto:
Such a shame about that decal...... nice job though..... could be classed as quirky on the finished project so I wouldn't worry too much.
Loving the progress, my concern would be that after the fairing is fitted and the bike is upright, the logo may be obscured?
Sorry but that would drive me insane.
I am constantly flipping at the moment between thinking it will be nice a quirk, a way to obviously say this bike isnt normal and - its wrong and should be flat with the tank
Ill wait until everything is complete and then decide.
May get a second tank cheap, get that done then I have the choice haha

same here
never understand the whole laquering of decals anyway, they typically don't come from the factory like that
I had a nsr125 tank resprayed a few years back as was getting rusty, told them not to lacquer the decals
i get it back, not only had they lacquered the decals, they had lacquered the tankpad!!
I specifically asked them to lacquer the decal as I prefer the look :lipsrsealed:

.......yes
Sandpaper. Just sayin'... ;)
Liking the idea of getting a spare rank done.
This is a future classic.
Can you not go back to the paint shop and say 'you put the badge in the wrong fucking place. Fix it'?
Is it going to be as nice as this?

That is the exact same fairing that I have for mine (that is their demo bike)
I'm going for a different colour scheme though
Lack of updates on this can be put down to dark and cold winter with lack of a garage.
My engine should be done now, but I've been on a few holidays recently so funds are a bit short so I'm keeping quiet so a couple of months and hoping they don't notice it sat in the corner of their workshop haha

AN UPDATE!!!
Had a few things back from the powder coaters (still no engine yet though.........)
I ummed and arrrghd about the colour of the wheels for a long time, as I am not a massive fan of gold, but came to the conclusion that with the unconventional colour scheme I have going on, keeping the wheels to how they are on the model bike was the way to go. Hopefully I wont regret that decision once its done.
The swingarm has a really nice, unexpected fleck in it.

I also hope that these tryres stay on properly. although they are the right size, they are not meant for the bike, but I didnt want to use the shitty standard ones
Look forward to seeing it coming together.
Progress, sweet.
No photo updates, but as of a couple of weeks ago the bike is with a fabrication place to have the mounts for the fairings made up
After over a year, its roaring along
Looking forward to seeing the photos soon. *nudge* :afro:
HOLY THREAD RESURECTION!
So, last week, out of the blue (I had given up on ever seeing the bike again, but thats a whole other story) The fabrication place suddenly sent me a whatsapp.....

Its not final yet, they want me to pop along to make sure I'm happy before they do all the mounts permanently.
Which brings me on to a question for the few left here. Anyone got any recommendations of places that can make custom decals? The race rep ones I want are very niche and not available it seems
If you can get the design you want made in ImageReady, any printers should be able to print onto self-adhesive vinyl and then you can lacquer over the top if you wish.
Great to see some progress on this thread! :-D
Bit dangerous having a reg plate up there. Might cause issues under heavy braking.....
