Bikes For Sale / GSXR600 K3 2003
November 07, 2019, 04:58:37 PM
Hi All,

Selling the GSXR on ebay - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/293311402149

It just lives at work now and I ride it to the occasional meeting since it got nicked out of the back garden at home - so basically useless to me now.

Bike isn't the tidiest cosmetically as you'll see from the pics and she's got a few scuffs and scrapes but would make a great winter hack or a track day weapon! Really hasn't wanted for anything mechanically during my ownership. Just had fork seals done and serviced in May for trip away in July then not used since really.

On the bay for £1800 but it can belong to one of you lovely ninjas for £1500 (£100 less than I'm willing to take from eBay).

Refreshingly honest appraisal of both the sport and your personal abilities there Gilb.

I try and do most of my riding off road these days and have to say that the gulf in skill between those who can and me is vast.

I also ride trials on occasion where the speeds are lower but the amount of bottle required is more than I can often muster. So I wobble round in beginners and just try to enjoy my ride. I did try and step up to Novice the year before last after scoring some decent finishes and immediately the talent gap was apparent so I went back to enjoying myself.

Cheers Dom, I feel like I'm probably pretty similar to you on that front. I enjoyed trials riding despite finding it as scary as you.... but at least there is the option to not going big on trials! Motocross just seems to have no "potter about and get a feel for it" mode!

have often thought about doing something like this, as do like a bit of motox
but also fully aware that i probably do not possess the confidence or skill to do it.. i also do not bounce as well as i used to.
also the place that used to do it up the road shut down... so probably will never bother!

Komp, don't let my assessment put you off. I really was scraping the barrel in terms of talent and confidence. My main problem is that I very much have to go through A, B and C to get to D in terms of picking up a skill..... you're required to at least have a go at D without any intro and I just couldn't do it. defo worth finding out how you feel when you get there!

Photos of the pain Gilby - show them now.

Haha, Moz all I've got are the pics they got on the facebook page..... the level of skill is evidenced by the fact that you can see all of the knobbles on the tyre..... unblurred!!

Bike Talk / KTM Motocross Experience Day
June 18, 2019, 05:31:50 PM
My work bought me a day at the KTM Motox experience and I can safely say it was one of the most difficult and uncomfortable events of my life!

The day was well run and the bikes were fantastic. They had new Enduro bikes, motox bikes including 250cc, 350cc and 450cc 4 strokes and a 125cc 2 stroke (albeit they didn't get the 2 stroke out as there weren't enough deemed worthy of riding it).

The runner of the experience (Barry Johnson) had the charm of a kick in the spuds initially but that was nothing unexpected from a bloke who's whole job is hanging out with motocrossers and shouting at 'dweebs'.... it was basically how he introduced himself with the promise that you'd get used to him! His son, Ryan, and their mate Tom, also ran the day and where good fun, especially out of earshot of sarcastic Barry.

I liked all of them, and once they warmed up to each of the personalities and abilities there, they were genuinely supportive and a good laugh. Initially it was a lot of shouting and assuming everyone was a bellend..... regardless of who you were or how you were getting on really.

The actual Motox riding was great and set up as well as you could want for an intro to MX......but Christ, it's completely beyond me. It's one of the most physically demanding things I've ever done, it's terrifying, technically difficult and painful. I've genuinely never known something that requires such a leap of confidence to even take your first step.

As soon as I got knackered and binned it a couple of times I lost my confidence with it and just couldn't get beyond the stage where the bike was handling like shit. I knew that the answer was to be more confident and wind it on, but that just resulted in bigger, more painful and frequent crashes. Can't remember the last time anything sporting or exercise wise completely overwhelmed me. I'd normally rate myself at being able to pick something up from fresh and make a good account of myself but ended the day worst of the bunch and desperate to go home tbh..... kept my mood up and giving it a go but just really couldn't get to grips with it. Finished with a broken helmet and a sore neck and head from my highest scoring nose-dive!

Full respect to people that do motox to any sort of standard, even those that have manged to get beyond the initial phase of it. What a brutal old game!

Despite all the above, would definitely recommend the day if you've never done any motox and fancied a go. It was the perfect way to give it a go in controlled conditions.

I've just googled them, they're plastic.........

Ahhhhh....... busted!

I agree with Carbon's logic. The analogy I was thinking of was with planes. I'll accept that if I fly Ryanair I'm not going to get all of the comfort and 'nice to haves' as a premium flight.... but I don't expect it to be anymore likely to fall out of the air once it's passed the standard required!

As for helmets, if the product is the same quality and safety and it can be proven then we are all mugs for letting premium brands rip us off. But that argument HAS to bear up to actual scrutiny. You can't just HOPE that they are the same quality Carbon!

I think you'd like the RC8 of mine. Bob up and have a go.

I think I'd be tempted by an 06-08 R1....... the model Peej had, they're ace.

At the cheaper end GSXR1000 of a year to suit your wallet..... they're all good.

You want a sports bike for the riding you'll be doing for sure.......... you can join Dicko and I on a road bike only TD, or come to Spain with me!! I won't bum you..... promise

Don't think I can afford a reasonable RC8.... but if the offer of a joy ride and a gentle bum is on offer I'll take it up with both hands. TBH, I'd come up for a cup of tea and a cuddle!

Kettle is always on. Would very much like you to meet Anna anyway............. so fucking get a wriggle on y'cunt!

I've put aside a packet of hula hoops and a double decker which I'll consume whilst compiling a list of dates for this to happen..... I'll bring you your own hoops and double decker on confirmation!

thanks all,

some serious food for thought. TBH, i don't 'need' any more power than a 600 and I definitely don't need anything heavier which is why i was originally looking at 600's (I took the girl's bike comment as tongue in cheek)..... but, if a Thou comes up that ticks all the boxes and I can ride the thing without having to wrestle it around without filling my pockets full of lead weight then i don't see why I wouldn't at least consider a Thou.

The 954 is a lovely looking bike. Will have to give the RC8 a look around and see if I can get on with a Thou. If not, I'm content on a 600. The 675 I had was a fine engine and never wanted more day to day or on Euro-trips.

I am starting to get aches and pains on long rides but as a rule I fit so well on a little 6 that i don't suffer as you'd imagine. It does change the geometry of them quite a bit i think.

Argghhh.... the 636 is such a conundrum. Looking through it actually looks like the best deal I could get and nobody has a bad thing to say about riding them..... but I just can't love the look of them at all. I'd begrudge buying something I didn't like the look of tbh. It's shallow and completely misses the point of biking but it's a lot of sheckles to part with and I've got to love it to make it worth swapping mine!

I'll have a proper look into these thous.... the R1 floats my boat!

Don't be gay - go litre class.

929 or 954 Blade, ZX9R Gixxer Thou K4 or K5 if you can find one.

600s are for girls.

I'll sort a test ride on a litre bike. I've ridden a Gixer Thou K5 but it felt massive, like I was sat in the middle of a tank... and it was in the wet with a half action throttle which was not confidence inspiring at all!! I'll try a blade and see what I think.

I forgot you're the stature of a small child...... forget those then.

675 Street great bike but tedious over long motorway distances. What about a Speed?

Woah there.... I'm actually quite big for a child..... just not an adult male!

I'd have to get a screen for a Street Triple if i was going away on it. Does the Speed manage motorway speeds / wind any better?

The more I think about it the more I'm thinking I'll end up on an SS bike!

also zx10r's too

depend if sport or tourer is your priority  :cheesy:

I've never considered a zx10r.... Just heard they were absolute animals and dismissed it as an idea for a first thou! I'll have a look cheers!

i'll ignore the 1400 comment.... I am fairly certain I wouldn't be able to lift the bladdy thing off its stand!
