Bike Talk / test ride -
October 16, 2023, 12:00:15 PM
I took at v4s multistrada out for a spin at the weekend
as thinking about reducing the fleet back down to just the 2 bikes and trading in the triumph and the ktm. so want something that will allow me some confortable travel, but also still a bit of fun

It was quite impressive, especially the electronics package, although these new bikes all sound far too quiet... you wouldn't know there was a 170bhp v4 between your legs
sports mode was bloody good fun tho.

although i dont think i will be buying one at this time, i cannot afford the S model and the standard one lacks a lot of the basic features i would expect on a bike of this type.
now going to take a look a few alternatives namely the adventure S and the 1200 tiger
any other suggestions?

Bike Talk / MCE in administration
July 27, 2023, 10:39:22 AM
quite surprised to see this
https://www.visordown.com/news/industry/motorcycle-insurance-broker-mce-goes-administration
They were not the best insurer, although not the worst either!

perhaps they spent a bit too much money in sponsoring the likes of BSB?

Tyres / anyone fit their own tyres?
March 06, 2023, 02:53:27 PM

i need to get the 9 nine t wheels power coated, which means i need to get the tyres off, only to have to fit them back on again once complete a week later.
so have been looking at the tyre changers that appear in my online search.

as i have 3 bikes already thinking saving £50 a pop by fitting these myself could make its money back in a couple of years.

although not sure how good they actually are, and am i likely to just f**k my wheels!

Announcements / site funds time again
February 06, 2023, 02:39:25 PM
hello all

it is now 2 years since i did the gofundme campaign to cover the month hosting and annual domain renewal costs to keep mcnninjas.co.uk up and running.
so if i am to keep it going will need to do something similar again.
annual hosting cost is £43.20, the annual domain renewal is £32.33 (this is both both .co.uk and .com domains so could potentially cancel the .com renewal and reduce this to £11.99)
so about £76 a year or £55 depending on what domains to renew

with how little activity the site is getting nowadays i thought best to see what people thoughts on this were?
in the last 7 days only 17 registered users visited the site and can only see about 4 posts in that same time, but some weeks we get no posts!

ultimately if enough people want it kept and happy to put in the monies then i will keep it going
but maybe it is time to let it die gracefully?

please let me know your thoughts

Bike Talk / new toy
August 31, 2022, 09:43:49 AM
had a hankering for a 9 nine t for a while, love the look of them, and very much interested in the air cooled boxer engine. my idea was a few mods to give it a bit of a cafe racer feel.
so when i came across this with the work done, low mileage, private plate and at a price i could afford i went for it.

put a few miles on it so far, i think may have to revert bars back to standard, as although looks the part, am finding riding position a little aggressive.
loving the noisy can tho and the engine characteristics, although can get a bit twitchy on the gear change down.
very happy with look of it, have a few minor aesthetic bits to tidy up, doesn't look like has been cleaned particularly well over the years.

i had planned to part with one of the existing bikes, but not sure this would be a suitable replacement for either, so for now will be #3 in the fleet.

Mechanical / aftermarket hoses
July 21, 2022, 09:42:32 AM
the coolant hoses on the speed triple are horribly discolored, i can get them back to "almost" black again using bumper/trim blackning stuff, but after a few months return to a dirty yellow colour!

i have done a bit of a google, but the only hoses i can find are samco ones for my bike.
is this my only option? anyone know of any other brands that make aftermarket hoses?
i could just buy replacements from triumph, but concerned about them becoming discolored again.

cheers

Announcements / Forum Upgrade - today.. hopefully
May 20, 2022, 10:21:49 AM
hello all

just to advise i plan to upgrade the forum to the latest version of smf later today (assuming i dont get side tracked with actual work)
during the upgrade the site will be out of action, I am told as a large update it may also lose some customization, so may look at bit odd until i can sort.
i doubt anyone will notice, but i thought i should at least give some kind of heads up :)

Bike Talk / trumpet bling
January 10, 2022, 10:00:39 AM
i really liked the look of the quick release fuel cap that alzo fitted to his bimmer
and was also fed up of having to fish around my pockets for key when fueling
so fitted this at the weekend  :afro:

Bike Talk / kawasaki z650rs
September 28, 2021, 03:43:59 PM
Kawasaki have another modern classic/retro machine on the way
https://fb.watch/8iUwCEzckU/

looks pleasant enough, i think if i had to buy a retro kwak my choice would go for the z900rs
although out of all these modern retro machines i still prefer the R nineT racer

Bike Talk / ktm bling
September 23, 2021, 05:17:23 PM
alzo might be falling out of love with his orange machine, but still love my workhorse SMT
and as it had been a while since i had spoiled it, i got it some unnecessary bling
you can surely never have too much orange on a ktm :)

to be fair the rear brake reservoir lid was pretty degraded, same with the clutch reservoir.
at some point i need to get the rear spring powder or replaced
I know probably a waste of time on a bike that only gets used when roads are covered in crud or its raining, but it has treated me well over the years

Bike Talk / Phone mounts
May 21, 2021, 11:28:00 AM
anyone use a mobile phone mount on their bike?
if so which one do you use?
there seem to be so many our there, and prices range so massively, from £5 up to £80

i have an old kreiga(i think) handlebar bag with window for phone, which has served me well, but phones became to large to fit in it a few years back. i have hacked bits out of it to allow phones to fit, but i think need of something else

any recommendations welcome

Bike Talk / new lid day
March 25, 2021, 02:12:30 PM
i was long overdue a new lid.

was still using my old guinters rep i bought when i had the blade
and my dovi rep from when i got the ducati
so were around 10 and 5 years old respectively

decided to go back to shoei as had good memories from my very first helmet. cant beleive how much lighter it is than my old shark
went for something a bit retro, with matt black to go with the RS

Bike Talk / jacket repair
February 24, 2021, 11:50:50 AM
my RST textile jacket main zip has failed, only discovered when i hoped on the bike for first time last week! typical.

normally i would take into work and get someone to look at there, but most of the factory staff are furloughed still.
i have been ringing round local tailors, but none seem to be open in any capacity at the moment.

i don't want to have to buy a new jacket, when only issue is the zip, but struggling to get repaired
anyone know of any online tailors that can repair motorcycle gear? or recommended any places that are still taking in work?

thanks

Announcements / forum migration and donations
February 04, 2021, 08:45:56 AM
hello all

just to make you aware, I am hoping to get the migration of the forum to its new hosting server done in the next couple of weeks. I have already purchased the new hosting package.
You should not notice anything your side, although I do plan to make mcnninjas.co.uk the primary domain again.

obviously the new hosting does incur a small cost, as does the domain renewals.
for the last few years I have just been paying the domain renewals myself, but probably time to share costs

over the year I calculate the total cost of running the site will be around £80 total. so not much

figured most transparent way to do this was to setup a little gofundme campaign. hopefully it will do the trick! not used it before
see below link
https://www.gofundme.com/f/mcnninjascouk-forum?utm_source=customer&utm_medium=copy_link&utm_campaign=p_cf+share-flow-1
so if interested in donating please do so

I will update you regarding the move itself when it gets underway

Bike Talk / got a test ride booked
August 09, 2019, 10:41:28 AM
on one of these

as much as i love the 899, if i do anything over an hour nowadays my wrists are in pieces.
so thought i would try a few nekids and see what i think
as tk cope is literally round corner, figured would start with this
I know a couple of others have one on the site, and feedback i have read seems mostly positive

Announcements / Forum upgrade
July 18, 2019, 09:29:02 AM
Hello all

The site was upgraded yesterday as you can probably tell.
It was quite a significant upgrade, that wiped all customisation from the site.
The core functionality has been working fine and I have got many of the features back up and running but not all.

  • I could not recover user avatars, the file structure and file types have changed with this new version. So they will need to be re-uploaded
  • tapatalk will no longer work with this version, but as new site is responsive it should not be required.
  • obviously the site looks a bit different. Unfortunately there are not that many themes available for this latest version. But will be working on making a green themed version of site.

if you spot anything else that is not working as expected please post in here or send me a pm.
cheers

Bike Talk / husqvarna VITPILEN 701
September 10, 2018, 05:58:18 PM
was having a good look at one of these after the ambulance run in harwich yesterday.
Definitely an eye catching bike, i think i quite like the styling.
not sure if could drop down to only 74bhp, although i am sure the single cyclinder ktm lump could be fun

Wanted / suomy visor attachment clip
July 25, 2018, 03:09:26 PM
hello

bit of a long shot, but lost the little round metal fixing from the visor attachment on my suomy dovi replica.
its one of the worse designs for a visor mechanism i have ever encountered, its just amazing i havent lost it earlier

anywho.. i tried to order the whole replacement kit from amazon earlier, but seller cancelled as out of stock
there is another kit on ebay but for sale by the same person, so cant see much point in ordering from there either
i have contacted suomy direct, but yet to get a reply

this is the bit i am after

i dont suppose anyone has an old lid kicking about they dont use and one of these going spare?
thanks
