Storing a petrol tank

Just done a tank swap on the Harley , what's the best way to store the old tank , drained fuel and got it open in the garage at the moment , hoping the residue will evaporate , is this the correct thing to do?

I think it's better storing it full rather than empty, or somewhere dry and warm?

My plan is to sell it as it's no longer required (7.5 litre)

DW is right, always best to have them full so no air to oxidise the metal.

In your case though, as you're flogging it, warm up some cooking oil and pour it In and swill it around the tank

I'd heard it was better to store it full as there is less fuel vapour in the tank.

Serious. Most tanks have a lining to stop them corroding....... some don't...... Ducati 999's didn't for example as I know from experience.

No idea on Harley so may be worth raising the q with someone more knowledgeable that us.

Cooking oil goes very thin when warm so is ideal to coat the inside of a tank....... just leave it upturned for the residue to run out.

Unless it's coated, then just empty it and make sure it's dry inside.
