Boys...boys...boys...I want to be like Arnie in Terminator... :azn:

Have you ridden one Alzo? I rode the Nightster (sp?) which I was led to believe was roughly the same thing...... and I was horrified at the handling! So much so I questioned whether it was broken!
I test rode one years ago...the dealer location was next to the M8 Motorway...I rode 10 miles East and back...and I laughed the whole journey...it was raw basic biking...no pretence...I did enjoy it...but fully accept it's no back lane scratcher.

this one couldn't handle the taps being opened on a straight road that was cambered slightly..... think it might have been broken! Rode the 2018 Fatboy last month in Canada..... they do make a lot of sense out there!

A Harley Sportster 1200 is a bike I'd like as a stable mate to the awesome S1000R.

And you call the FTR horrible.

You have lost it 😉
I don't remember a time when I've ever felt in total agreement with MOz before...

In Alzo's defense, if everyone liked them it wouldn't be a guilty pleasure now would it!?

For me I swore 100% off Italian vehicles after 6 months of hell and a back catalog of incidents with friends and family..... but I keep a guilty secret inside that I long for a Ducati 748.... in yellow!

I've always wanted a proper super-moto bike for the road. The guilty part is that every time I see a hooded loonatic wheelie one through Manchester town centre with no number plates it only makes me want one more!

My other two guilty pleasures that I want but wouldn't want my mates to know what I've been doing.....

a) Yamaha R125, they look the absolute nuts for a 17 year old and I bet they handle like magic, very curious!

b) any nifty 50 scooter. whenever I've had cause to ride one it's never done anything but bring a smile to my face. Like riding a BMX without the need to pedal!

Did I read in Hizzy's autobiography that he road the TT at say 85% to allow for a margin of error?....... I could be imagining things.

That said, logic would suggest that two riders racing on a track at 100% of their capacity.... the faster rider would win.

If the same riders raced on a road circuit and the faster rider road at only 85% and the slower at 100%, then in all likelihood, the slower rider would/could win.

I'm probably not making much sense, but I think it's safe to assume that the likes of McGuiness, Dunlop, Hutchinson et al probably don't leave much in the way of a margin of error on the road circuit.

This sums it up exactly (I know what you mean Dan x)

What it doesn't explain is if good road racers go 100% on hazardous roads why can't they be the quickest on short circuits on the whole. I think the answer is they are not as technically gifted as short circuit racers especially in the fine bike setup art. Their trade is roads - not circuits. Plasterers and painters innit.

+1

My housemate asked me about it on Monday and my answer was that its the difference between the Hakka and the Ballet....

Still on a sportsbike. I'm torn between sportsbike and naked bikes. Both have pro's a cons and in 90% of situations the nakeds are better when you balance the pros and cons for me.... can't think of many situations on the road where I'd definitely choose the GSXR over the SV650 I had before it. Can think of plenty when I'd defo choose the SV!

The kicker for me is that a few times a year when you get on a track or an alpine pass or whatever then you think "bloody hell.... this is the tool for the job"... at the moment that's too big a draw to do away with the awkward town riding, bad back, sore wrists and numb arse! I'm sure it will do one day, but for the minute I don't feel the need to switch over.

Plenty more sportsbikes will come out of the woodwork in the next few months I'm sure..... or at least by pushed to the end of the drive for a wash and a little tootle out so all their mates down the pub can see how ace they look in power ranger attire .... got to do something to cover the 500 summer miles before being put away for the winter again

Viewing this tomorrow. It's had loads of interest but I have my name top of the list.

Really fancy it. It's got a reasonable service history and just a couple of minor marks I'd try and sort. Matt Black is not my favourite finish.

The dealer can't do a test ride but it should be OK at about 105 bhp.

What do you think?

Never thought to tell you lot that my mate loved his day at Ron Haslam Race School so much that he organised me one back for my 30th Birthday.

I did the school yesterday and had a great day. Those CBR's are awesome bikes and Donnington was fantastic! Really enjoyed it.

My riding was described as "very confusing" originally and after some chatting after session 1 we found some stuff for me to try and concentrate on for the second session. Within 3 laps I had my first ever knee down on the right knee and, one corner later, had my first left knee down as well. Have not stopped smiling since. My riding then went even more to pot because all i wanted to do was drag my knees around the circuit anywhere I could..... I don't regret that decision one little bit!

My instructor, Matt Bishop, was great. He was kind and helpful but very direct, no BS which is perfect. He did tell me that I was the first person he's ever had to tell not to hang off too much.... but on the plus side, it does at least mean I was following his instructions from the first session. After a little bit of practice and a chat after the second session we managed to produce the picture below..... which I am chuffed to bits with!

Great day.

Jesus..... not helping my confidence at all!!

Glad you're ok though

I'm certain these lessons don't apply to a rider of your caliber Dan!

Wise words for the rest of us though Tucola.... well worth reminding ourselves often!

QuoteI'd assume that it was only a vehicle which was capable of going on the road (registered) that would need to be insured.

The clear implication from that article is that we are talking about insurance for off-road accidents here.

"the rule that off-road vehicles, such as tractors and racing cars, had to be insured even if they never went on a public highway"

"Instead, many claims for off-road accidents will be settled out of a fund, into which all insurers must pay and which pays out for uninsured vehicles."

QuoteThis came up last year sometime.

Ah, missed that...

Ah sorry, I couldn't read the whole article without a Times subscription - from the bit I could read I assumed it was a top up to the insurance we buy now to pay for other payouts.

I think it is sensible that where off-road vehicles are insured they should cover accidents off-road (which was the opening incident of the EU law?) but it just doesn't seem practical to enforce a law that requires all off road vehicles to be insured at all.... where does it end? Surely it is enough for places and people to be insured.... i.e. track day providers being insured etc

I'd assume that it was only a vehicle which was capable of going on the road (registered) that would need to be insured. Otherwise, where does it end? Ride on lawn mowers, hover board things etc etc?
