fork internal swop is it possible

right on my doner bike the forks have K-Tech 20SSK Piston kit and Flow Control Valves fitted so this is obviously a big step up over stock I was going to just switch the forks out but mine are in much better condition , on the ketch spec forks there is pitting on the fork bottoms and also some light pitting on the stanchions , and what looks like a dodgy seal (not gone yet...)

how realistic is it to just switch the internals over to my set of forks , is this even possible , what would I need etc?

You'd need to get K-Tech to do it or you'll probably fuck it right up.
Hope this helps.

Its having the right tools to get the internals out of the fork legs and holding it all in place while you fit them in the other legs.  Its not the sort of thing you want to screw up.

ahh I understand is switching the fork bottoms round any easier  or is it the same boat?

Never done.  Are they pressed onto the fork tubes?  Not something I'd want to risk being done wrong personally.

Well if the pitting rubs off the stanchions I'll just swop them out as that's the most important bit ,everything else can be anodised polished or painted I guess and a fork seals not the end of the world , I'd imagine that's something that can be don't my self?

On t web a guy shows how to make diy tools for this very job. Haven't got a link.

I seem to remember saying something along these lines before but here I go.

If you need to ask these kind of questions about important bits like suspension/brakes/wheels i.e. the things that will keep you alive when the smelly stuff hits the fan you shouldn't be considering doing it yourself.

Also instead of asking on here research the job properly.

Now I'm not saying you aren't capable of doing the job BUT as you ask on here and the questions you ask you don't know where to start.

In answer to the question - Yes of course the internals can be swapped over - however you will need a number of special tools for the job. Right way up forks are relatively easy I have done a couple of sets. I wouldn't try with USD forks due to the tools required it will probably cost more for the correct tools to do the forks than paying a suspension specialist to do the job properly.

I am pretty sure that the forks bottoms on the B1 forks cannot be successfully removed and replaced and the way to go is a new set of stanchions.

Just my opinion, feel free to ignore it like all the other advice you ask for ;-)

I've done rwu forks before so wasn't sure how different it would be , it should still be relatively easy to replace the seals on the forks yes?

Everything is easy when you know how to do it.
Unlike RWU forks, you need to strip and seperate the fork legs.  Something you don't know how to do.
I'd class myself as reasonably confident at replacing things and most maintenance tasks on a bike but I'd class that particulatly job as one for the pros.  The consequences of screwing it up are too high for me personally.

just watched a video of it being done on youtube , looks quite easy if I'm honest (on generic fork used) but with the ktec bits I feel I might run into problems so I think I best leave it alone as I don't want to bugger them up , was tempted to leave my stock forks on but I suppose these are a worth while upgrade

Have you asked K-Tech how much they'd charge to swap them over?  You might be surprised how reasonable they are if you take the forks to them.
