Title: Can’t decide
Post by: MOzZereLLa on July 08, 2020, 06:58:45 am
Some of you would have seen on FB.

I am in a real dilemma. 2020 Street Triple 765RS or 890R Duke.

I just can't decide.

KTM - superior chassis with sublime reviews. Cheaper finance @ 4.9%. Local dealer has one being held for me as they are very limited in numbers. His deal includes free first service, Evotech tail tidy and cruise control retro-fitted as part of the package. Bike is RRP. Bad: lots of reports of the bike being unreliable - one engine failure and lots of oil leaks just like the 790 had.

Triumph - chassis not as good but I much prefer the triple engine. £450 discount offered off list but preferred colour (silver grey) not available from the factory immediately. Awaiting a delivery time to be confirmed. Better built could be argued. Much better dash and neater heated grips solution. Finance more expensive @ 7.9% and no negotiations yet about first service cost etc etc.

Both local dealers. I could look further afield but can't be arsed with the rigmarole to be honest. I feel more loyal to the KTM dealer but have dealt with both extensively in the past.

No part ex issues - I don't have a bike at the moment.

The indecision is actually making any excitement about getting a new bike shrink to fuck all.

Any thoughts here?

Get the Street. Everyone I know who has tried one loves it.

As per Facebook, I'd go Street but I read the RS suspension is rock solid so depending on the roads you ride, other options are available.

both great brands

Out of these 2 particular bikes i think would prefer the KTM, just looks like more fun
but obviously not done any research into reliability

If it was me, Street Triple.

Always liked them, just seem to be the right bike for the majority of riding situations.

Personally I love the Triumph triples, probably the best 'road' engine on the market, perfect fuelling and ride-ability and its a bloody good looking bike..

If the only issue on the KTM that is affecting your decision (knowing how much you like a bargain) then is it something that would affect you massively given the mileage you do and the fact it will be under warranty whilst you own it....??

just back em off the comfort settings, plus the 2020 rides plusher (?) than the 2017-2109 slightly different suspension tune. Setting the erlier one to comfort brings it to the same. Reviews I've read have the KTM as firmer and harsher than the Street as well.

Street for me just because Triple engine and note, the KTM sounds like a CB500

Triumph prices went up £200 on 01 July.

KTM finance now 9.9% (cos the base rate is really high 😡)

KTM deal also not quite as good now you have to pay to have track pack and QS+ added on. Dealer "forgot" I wanted that. He ain't going to play MOz negotiating as he has a queue of people for it.

Only Triumph available at the pre-July price rise is the matt black one now. Not sure I like matt finished bikes.

Fuck it. I'll keep my money ☹️

Even with the prices crashing still can't afford it. Set a limit of £10k. Pushing that.

KTM finance is still 4.9% at my dealer. He  also showed me the 890R today. Looks good in the flesh. Still awaiting a final deal.

How much are they?

They don't factor highly in the super naked group tests I've seen.

£15k.
As for the group tests...please ride one...and come back to me...because I think the group tests I have seen are talking bollocks...they must be issued scripts...what I rode yesterday was breathtakingly fast...refined...comfortable...and I came away grateful at the opportunity...Kawasaki have made a truly fantastic bike...I like to think my 40 years plus gives me some credentials...others may think not...but for what it's worth it's the most accomplished bike I've ridden.

I'm sure it's awesome. LCR YouTube review was positive from a road bike point of view. My local Kawasaki dealer is miles away. It's a shame as I'd like to try one.

Another nail is I can't afford one.

Yip...it's a Road bike...horses for courses...none of us need a track focused missile...unless we're going on track. 😊

Depends on usage for me, once every few weeks just for a blast - ktm. More - street.

I'd go street personally if there's a deal as suspect it'll feel less bland than the old ones.

Wasn't there a 44 teeth vid on this comparison?
Title: Re: Can’t decide
Post by: MOzZereLLa on July 10, 2020, 10:11:50 pm
Watched the 44 teeth comparison. They said KTM the one to have but Triumph still awesome.

It's going to be the Triumph I think. I've read of other KTM failures and curiously, a batch of bikes Dyno tested by a euro tuning company has found the newer bikes are only putting out 97bhp as opposed to 112-115bhp of the earlier ones. Rumour has it KTM have detuned the engines in an attempt to gain a bit more reliability.

As long as you accept KTM will be punting them out £2000 cheaper in a few months time!
Bit less common than the Triumph if that sort of thing matters?

Triumph wins. Deposit placed yesterday. Managed to get a grey one (refuse to call it silver like Triumph do) at the pre 01 Jul price rise rate so saved another £200. Negotiated £500 off.

Happy.

Too busy enjoying it to post about it.

Evotech tail tidy and rad guard fitted.

No other plans. Most of the aftermarket exhausts look a bit shit. Triple noise is fine with the oem can.

Yes you are right it is still fitted an Arrow to mine though :)

Triumph are not supplying an official aftermarket exhaust with the 2020 like they did with the earlier models. Something to do with the increase in midrange and Euro5 status of the 2020 engine.

I'm not bothered. OEM can looks OK. It's an expense I really can justify anymore and all the other systems available look awful.

I'll just ride it.

Fair point I did notice the standard can on the 2020 sounded good (to be fair so does the 2017 ) one but I still wanted the Arrow and got the USA with the removeable baffle :). I can see why they aren't offering one due to the tightening emmisions etc.

I've been putting miles on the push iron lately and the sun is proper low in the sky in the mornings.

No went with the R, 19 model so it has the lcd dash. Figured the only real difference I might notice is the ohlins shock and I preferred the red accents... reminds me of my old 675R daytona

Also slightly more torque in the mid range slightly less top end power, not much in them to be honest.

Brakes? Not Brembos are they? Quickshifter?

2020 RS has the extra mid-range and top end.

Best of both 😎

😂 forgot about your love of ohlins alzo

its got black brembo's (prob same spec as the latest gsxr 1000), quickshifter and a ohlins shock is about £250 on ebay if my fat arse pushes this one beyond its limits. I think i'll be ok.

not sure if R suffers from same issues as the RS, but ensure bike has had the QS recall, and watch out for false neutrals between 4-5th
my bike is due to be collected for gearbox rebuild/replacement as it has chewed itself to bits!
common problem apparently!

In interests of actually posting something bike worthy on here....

got the bike, all is well. Ridiculously easy to ride to the point where I even commuted on it into Liverpool this morning.

abs and the bpf took a little getting used to on hard breaking coming to a complete stop. I might look to change out the brake pads as a test but on the whole very happy.

Also glad i went for the R model
